What is the construction and purpose of rear lights and brake lights?

Rear lights and brake lights are lamp assemblies mounted at the rear of the vehicle, on the fenders or tailgate. A typical element consists of a lens, housing, light source, reflectors, electrical connector, and mounting points. Their purpose is to signal the vehicle's presence, braking, and selected maneuvers. Depending on the model, they may appear as a single lamp or a set split into several parts.

What are rear lights and brake lights used for?

Rear lights are used to mark the car's position after dark and in low visibility, while brake lights are used to clearly signal braking. Thanks to them, the driver behind recognizes the road situation faster and can react earlier. Proper operation of these lamps also affects the vehicle's compliance with regulations and the safety of reversing and turning maneuvers if the lamp assembly also includes other light sections.

What is the construction and function of the LED module in a rear lamp?

The LED module is an integrated lighting element placed inside the rear lamp, responsible for light emission in one or more sections. It consists of diodes, an electronics board, and connections to the vehicle's installation. Its function is to generate a light signal quickly and evenly with low energy consumption. In practice, one must pay attention to the module's compatibility with the lamp housing, controller, and connector type.

How to choose a lamp for a specific car version?

It is best to compare the OEM number, interchangeable numbers, mounting side, and body version. It also matters whether the car is pre-facelift or post-facelift and whether the lamp is mounted in the fender or the tailgate. It is also worth checking the lens color, pin layout, and the presence of additional light functions.

What signs of damage should be noted before replacement?

Typical symptoms include a cracked lens, fogging inside the lamp, a non-working brake or position section, and damaged mounting brackets. Problems can also result from burnt contacts, a broken wire, or housing leaks. Before purchase, it is good to assess both the visual condition and the completeness of the connectors.

How is the installation of rear lights and brake lights performed?

Installation usually involves disconnecting the plug, unscrewing the mounts, removing the old lamp, and seating the new part in the same points. After installation, check the fit with the bodywork, seal, and the operation of all light sections. In cars with advanced electronics, you must additionally verify installation compatibility and the absence of error messages.
